PCOS, Endometriosis & HRT: Hormones and Your Hair

PCOS hair loss, endometriosis-related shedding and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) are three of the most searched — and least explained — reasons women notice hair thinning. This plain-English guide explains how each is associated with hair and scalp change, and how an Investigative Trichology™ evaluation at our Houston clinic documents the pattern alongside the care you already receive from your physician.

What clients often notice

  • Widening part, crown thinning or increased shedding alongside a PCOS history — often driven by androgen (male-pattern hormone) sensitivity at the follicle
  • Diffuse shedding during endometriosis flare periods, after laparoscopy or other surgery, or during hormonal suppression therapy
  • A shift in density, texture or shedding after starting, changing or stopping HRT — including birth control, progesterone-only protocols or menopausal hormone therapy

When to schedule an evaluation

As early as possible once you notice the change — ideally with a baseline before or shortly after a hormone protocol begins. We do not diagnose PCOS or endometriosis and we do not advise on hormone therapy; those decisions stay with your physician. Our role is the hair and scalp investigation: documenting what your hair is doing alongside your medical care so the pattern is measured, not guessed. We Don't Guess—We Test™.
