Hair Loss FAQ
Hair loss questions, answered plainly.
What our Houston Trichologists hear most about thinning, shedding and bald spots — and how to begin your hair investigation.
Understanding Hair Loss
Thinning, shedding and bald spots.
Is it normal to shed hair every day?
Yes. Some daily shedding is part of the natural hair cycle. What matters is change: noticeably more hair in the shower or brush, a widening part, or thinning that keeps progressing. Those changes are worth investigating rather than guessing about.
What is the difference between shedding and thinning?
Shedding describes hair falling out, often suddenly. Thinning describes hair that looks less dense over time, sometimes without obvious fall-out. They can happen together, and telling them apart is one of the first things our Trichologists look at.
Why does hair loss happen?
Hair changes can relate to many factors — styling habits, stress, nutrition, hormonal life stages, scalp condition and family patterns among them. Because there is rarely one obvious reason, our approach is We Don't Guess—We Test™: we observe, document and look for patterns before suggesting a path.
Do you work with women's and Black hair loss in Houston?
Yes. A large part of our Houston clientele are women and clients with textured hair, including concerns around traction, edges and the crown. Our Trichologists are experienced with every hair texture and styling history.
Getting Help
When and how to start.
When should I get my hair loss looked at?
Earlier is better. If you have noticed a change that has lasted more than a few weeks, or it is affecting your confidence, a consultation helps you understand what you are seeing while more options are typically still open.
Is this medical care?
No. Trichology is a non-medical field. We provide educational, investigative evaluations of the hair and scalp. If what we observe suggests medical care, we will say so plainly and encourage you to see a licensed medical provider.
Which consultation is best for hair loss?
Most Houston-area clients begin with the In-Person Hair & Scalp Consultation ($99, 60 minutes). Clients outside Houston often start with the Virtual Hair & Scalp Consultation ($69, 30 minutes). Long-standing or complex concerns suit the Deluxe Microscopic Hair & Cellular Investigation™ ($199, 90 minutes). The Complimentary Discovery Phone Consultation is a free first conversation.
Can Zena help me choose?
Yes. Zena™, our Virtual Hair Concierge™, can listen to what you are noticing, suggest one consultation as a starting point, and give you questions to bring. She does not identify conditions — she helps you take the right next step.
Not sure where to start?
Let the guided consultation match suggest one.
Describe your goals on the consultation page, chat with Zena, or call (713) 640-5651.
Begin with an investigation, not a guess.
A conversation is the first step. We will help you understand what may be contributing to the changes you have noticed.
