Scalp Health FAQ
Healthy hair starts at the scalp.
Answers to the scalp questions Zena and our Trichologists hear most — and how a scalp analysis helps.
Scalp Health
Why the scalp matters.
Why does scalp health matter for my hair?
Hair grows from the scalp, so its environment matters. Build-up, dryness, oiliness and irritation can all affect how comfortable your scalp feels and how your hair looks. Looking closely at the scalp is a core part of every hair investigation.
What are common scalp concerns you see?
Clients often mention itching, flaking, tenderness, tightness after styling, oiliness or dryness. We document what we observe and help you understand the patterns — we do not identify medical conditions.
What is a scalp analysis?
A scalp analysis is a structured, magnified look at your scalp and hair alongside your history and routines. It helps our Trichologists see details the eye alone can miss, so recommendations are based on observation rather than guesswork.
Routines & Next Steps
Caring for your scalp.
Can my products or styling affect my scalp?
They can. Product build-up, wash frequency, tension from braids, weaves or wigs, and heat can all influence how your scalp feels. Bringing a list or photos of your products to your consultation is very helpful.
What if my scalp concern seems medical?
Trichology is non-medical. If what we observe suggests you need medical care, we will tell you plainly and encourage you to see a licensed medical provider.
Which consultation should I book for scalp concerns?
The In-Person Hair & Scalp Consultation ($99, 60 minutes) includes a hands-on scalp evaluation at our Northwest Houston clinic. For a deeper magnified look, the Deluxe Microscopic Hair & Cellular Investigation™ ($199, 90 minutes) is available. Zena can help you decide.
