CCCA

CCCA in Houston: investigation and scalp support.

Central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia is a scarring pattern that typically begins at the crown and spreads outward. It disproportionately affects Black women, and it rewards attention early.

What the pattern looks like

It often starts as a smooth, slightly shiny area at the crown where the part looks wider than it used to. Some people notice tenderness, itching or tingling; many notice nothing at all until density has clearly changed.

Because the pattern spreads outward from a centre, comparing images over time is far more informative than a single look.

Our role, and your physician's

We are Trichologists. We investigate and document what the scalp shows and support scalp health alongside your medical care — we do not diagnose or treat medical conditions.

Where a dermatologist's involvement is appropriate, we say so directly and work alongside that care rather than around it.

Why timing matters here

Areas that have scarred do not regrow. The scalp around them is where attention is worth spending, and that requires documented images taken far enough apart to be meaningful.

This is the page where we most strongly encourage an in-person visit rather than a virtual one.

Questions

Before you book.

Can CCCA be reversed?

Where scarring has occurred, that area does not regrow. This is exactly why early investigation and careful tracking of the surrounding scalp matter so much.

Is CCCA caused by relaxers or braids?

Research has not settled on a single cause, and family patterns appear to play a role. We look at your whole history rather than assigning blame to one habit.

Do you work with my dermatologist?

Yes. Many clients see both, and a documented scalp baseline is useful to everyone involved in your care.

How is CCCA different from traction alopecia?

Traction loss follows tension and usually shows at the hairline and nape. CCCA characteristically starts at the crown and spreads outward. Some people have signs of both.

Should I still wear protective styles?

We discuss tension, duration and installation rather than issuing blanket rules, and we take your life and preferences into account.

Does CCCA run in families?

Family patterns are frequently reported, which is one reason we ask about relatives during your history.

How often should I be reviewed?

Typically every few months, so images can be compared over a meaningful interval.
